Growth Mindset Tip #34 - Stop Beating Yourself Up for More Mindfulness and Resilience
The Whole Again Podcast: Mindfulness and Resilience through Kinstugi Wisdom airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday with Pause Breathe Reflect Microdose Meditations, Growth Mindset and Mindfulness Tips, to help us transform our scars into healing and resilience.
And between May and October, I'm sharing a new series I'm calling: A Perfectly Imperfect Union. It's about connecting with every day folks as they reflect on America at 250. Conversations will air every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

What would you do if someone else were beating you up?
You'd fight back. You'd get out of the situation. You wouldn't just stand there and take it.
So why do we let ourselves get away with it?
In this Growth Mindset Tip, part of his 25th Anniversary of his Last Bad Day series, Michael O'Brien shares Tip 34: stop beating yourself up.
We're quick to defend ourselves against cruelty from others. But when it comes to the voice inside our own heads, the one telling us we're too much or not enough, we let it run the show. That self-critical conversation isn't harmless background noise. It's actively holding us back from the ripple effect we're capable of creating.

Hey there. It's Michael. Welcome to Whole Again, the show that's here in support of the person you're becoming and a meaningful life. And every Friday this year, as a way to celebrate my 25th anniversary of my last bad day, a day that sparked all of this, I'm sharing things I've learned along the way. And I know that not everything I'll share will hit the mark for you.

I believe that we all have our own Toll House cookie recipe for a meaningful life. So if a particular share hits the mark for you and you wanna weave it into your recipe, then awesome sauce. But if it's not your thing, totally cool. We're still good. Simply push it to the side and use the ingredients that work for you.

Now, for most of us, if someone was being unkind to us, being cruel, picking on us, in a way, beating us up, I imagine you wouldn't stand for it. You would do something in response. You would try to either get out of the situation or defend yourself in some way so whoever was beating you up would stop And that leads us to tip number 34: stop beating yourself up Yes, we would take action if someone was beating us up.

But we have a way, as humans, of beating up ourselves. We're self-critical. We think that we're either too much or not enough of, and that conversation that we have with ourselves holds us back from creating the ripple effect that we can truly create that's within our potential. So if you wouldn't stand for someone beating you up, take that advice and stop beating yourself up

As always, thanks for being here. Thanks for listening. I hope you're checking out my new series this summer, A Perfectly Imperfect Union, where I'm talking to everyday folks across America on their reflections as America reaches year 250. And I have another episode for you tomorrow from one of your fellow neighbors, and I hope you'll check it out, as well as a whole week's worth of new episodes here on Whole Again.

But until all those come out, let's remember to celebrate our scars as golden symbols of our strength and resilience. And don't forget to have fun storming the castle.
