Hey there, it's Michael on Mondays. I love sharing a short meditation with you, and today as I record this, the world feels heavy. It literally and figuratively feels dark due to extreme cases of gun violence all across our world. We know about the stories related to gun violence that we hear, but there are countless others that we don't hear.

So today I have a Tong Glenn Meditation for you. It is been essential in my practice that spans close to 25 years when I feel a need to heal and wish to invite the light to come in, and I hope it can be as meaningful to you as it has been for me. If you're new to it, as we breathe in, we think of someone who is going through something who is suffering.

It could be ourselves, it could be someone you know. It could be a complete stranger. Sometimes we visualize as we breathe in, this suffering comes in a form of black smoke or the color black. And as we breathe in, we allow this darkness to touch our heart. And when it does, this darkness turns into light.

Or in other words, the black smoke that you may visualize turns into white smoke. And as you breathe out, you share this light, this loving kindness. With the rest of the world, we'll begin with ourselves and then we'll direct our attention to someone we know. Could be someone close by or a complete stranger.

So when you're ready, I encourage you to find a comfortable position. As you settle in, you can close your eyes. If that feels safe to do so, and we'll drop in. Let's begin with a deep breath in. Breathing up fully through your nose if you can, deep into your belly.

And then slowly breathe out,

inviting your body to relax as you settle into this moment.

And as the breath comes into its natural rhythm, I'll invite you to bring to mind something that is hard right now. It could be stress, it could be illness. It could be fear or grief, even uncertainty.

And as you breathe in. Simply acknowledge this feeling.

You may visualize that this feeling comes with a color like black or appears as black smoke,

and allow this feeling to touch your heart.

And see it transform into light or perhaps white smoke.

And now as you breathe out. Offer yourself kindness, compassion, love.

Stay with this. As you breathe in, acknowledge the feeling,

allow it to touch your heart, and as you breathe out, offer your. Compassion and love.

Now, I'll invite you to bring to mind someone who is also hurting. Or it could be a group of people like you. Their suffering may be due to fear or grief or uncertainty.

As you breathe in, breathe in. Their difficulty, breathe in their challenge,

and as you breathe out, breathe out compassion and empathy and kindness.

Breathing in their suffering.

Invited to be transformed by your heart. And as you breathe out, breathe out that compassion and kindness.

In this moment, you're not fixing them.

You are simply standing with them.

And when you feel ready, you can begin to ease your attention.

You can open your eyes if you've had 'em closed.

Thank you for doing this practice with me. In a world that can feel dark, we can always show up and offer light. We can offer care and compassion,

which will help us. Put a healing ripple into the world.
